Four Elected To Hall Of Fame

Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday by the members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
We detailed why The Big Unit and Pedro were no-brainers here, and we even invented another statistical category in honor of Johnson’s dominance here.
Smoltz pitched 20 years for the Braves before splitting a season between Boston and St. Louis. He won 213 games and saved 154 more, for what those are worth, while putting up a career 3.33 ERA (and a 3.24 FIP). He won a Cy Young in 1996 and appeared in eight All-Star games.
Biggio played all 20 of his seasons for the Astros, appearing in seven All-Star games. He had a career .291/.363/.433 line to go along with 291 home runs and 414 stolen bases (speaking of stolen bases, see the abysmal base running year he had in 1993).
It goes without saying Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza and Tim Raines got screwed again.
We showed you why on Piazza and Raines here and here. Bonds and Clemens need no explanation, of course.
Also, 12 players got 5 percented (kicked off the ballot going forward): Carlos Delgado, Troy Percival, Aaron Boone, Tom Gordon, Darin Erstad, Rich Aurilia, Tony Clark, Jermaine Dye, Cliff Floyd, Brian Giles, Eddie Guardo and Jason Schmidt. Nomar Garciaparra narrowly missed being booted at 5.5 percent.
Here are the vote totals, via the BBWAA website.
