Chase Utley seems content to ride out his contract with the Phillies, even if they won’t be any good. And that’s bad for the team:

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is ready and willing to trade anyone on his current roster in an effort to get “younger” and “more athletic,” words he has repeated often since committing to an overhaul.

Now that Rollins is gone, what about Utley?

“I’ve had some dialogue with Wolfie [agent Joel Wolfe] but frankly, he doesn’t want to go anywhere,” Amaro said. “He has no desire to go anywhere . . . He wants to honor his contract and that’s how we have to perceive it.”

Utley, a 12-year veteran of the Phillies, has 10-and-5 rights – meaning he can’t be traded without his consent because he has been in baseball 10 years and with the same team for five consecutive years.

He is signed through 2015, followed by three consecutive vesting options years at $15 million per year. Those options are guaranteed if he has 500 plate appearances in the previous year.
