White Sox-Athletics Complete Six-Player Deal

We speculated last night that Billy Beane was on the verge of turning Addison Russell and Billy McKinney in exchange for Marcus Semien and half a season of Jeff Samardzija.
Turns out, he did a little better than that in his deal with the White Sox.
The Athletics received Semien (a shortstop to fill the gaping hole left by Russell), catcher Josh Phegley, first base prospect Rangel Ravelo and pitcher Chris Bassitt. In exchange, the White Sox get Samardzija and one-time Top 20 prospect Michael Ynoa.
Notably, Semien was the No. 5 prospect in the White Sox organization entering 2014. For what it’s worth, Addison Russell was the No. 5 prospect in all of baseball on this list.
But you really can’t blame Beane and the Athletics for going for it in 2014. It just didn’t work out, as it usually doesn’t.
For their part, the White Sox want to keep Samardzija longer than the A’s did:
#WhiteSox trade to acquire Jeff Samardzija is official. We just spoke w/Sox VP Kenny Williams who says the team hopes to keep him long term.

We will place the early odds of that happening at 7.8 percent.
